Val di Fiemme is back to Ski Jumping: jumping has returned to the cradle of Nordic skiing with the Predazzo Ski Jumping Stadium welcoming the champions of Ski Jumping in a lively atmosphere. Abigail Strate (CAN) and Jan Hörl (AUT) prevailed over the competition in the Individual competition on the HS109 hill, which officially inaugurated the FIS Nordic Summer Festival.
The first international competition on the renovated jumping hills of the Ski Jumping Stadium of Predazzo took place in the late afternoon of yesterday, after slight and predicted windy moments had delayed the start. Perfect timing to welcome the Olympic and Paralympic torch of Milano Cortina 2026, which, under the gaze of OC President Pietro De Godenz and the sports assessor of the PAT (Autonomous Province of Trento), Mattia Gottardi, found its place with a view of the hills. ‘Seeing the first jumps of a world-class competition, here with the Olympic and Paralympic torch, is particularly exciting because it shows that very little time is left, but also that so much has been done so far to be ready for the Olympic and Paralympic event, ' added Gottardi.
In the women's competition, to make things clear right from the start, in the facility that will award the Olympic gold medals of Milano Cortina 2026 was a brilliant Abigail Strate. The Canadian was reconfirmed in great shape, winning the 2nd victory in this FIS Summer Grand Prix 2025, in a season in which she has never yet fallen from the podium. Behind her, a dejected Nika Prevc (SLO), with the world champion leading after the first jump, but with a performance that earned her only the best 4th jump in the second round, settled in second place. Obtaining the first podium in her career in the major summer event was the Japanese Yuka Seto, who started her experience on the Predazzo’s hills with a 3rd place, participating in the award ceremony together with the ‘Aizenponeri’, a folkloristic group of Predazzo. The eagerly awaited Nozomi Maruyama (JPN) was ‘only’ 5th, with Alexandria Loutitt (CAN) ahead of her, while the Austrian Eva Pinkelnig greeted in tears the Stalimen venue: the multiple world champion was the victim of a fall after landing on the 2nd jump.
On the men’s side, Austria secured a double victory thanks to champions Jan Hörl and Daniel Tschofenig, who delivered a high-level performance: the top athletes finished very close together, with a large number of them separated by just over a metre. The final scores were naturally determined by the style expressed in the technical movements and evaluated by the jury, as well as wind factors and the distance in metres. Combining these factors and results, the Austrian duo came out on top, while the podium was completed by Olympic champion Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN).
The first and historic day of the FIS Nordic Summer Festival in Val di Fiemme went to the archive under the stars and with the results of the Individual competition on the HS109 hill. For athletes it was better to rest and think about the next events of the busy competitive calendar proposed in the shadow of the Dolomites, while for enthusiasts, local and foreign fans, the party continued at the Fiemme Party Tent with the music of Satomi Hot Night.
Today continues with the Nordic Combined women's Gundersen (from the morning on the HS109 ski jump + 5km of roller skiing from 2 pm) and with the 200m Sprint in free technique of Rollerskiing (from 3 pm the qualifications, followed by the finals): always busy the Stadium of Salto di Predazzo and the streets of the center of Ziano di Fiemme.
The staff of the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme committee and its volunteers went into action with the right determination and are more ready than ever for a successful FIS Nordic Summer Festival. Today, there will also be fun in the company of Tina&Milo, official mascots of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, who will entertain school students of all levels in Predazzo with the Olympic and Paralympic Torch displayed in the Stalimen location during the competitions. Jump in the Breakfast and Septemberfest will liven up the Jumping Stadium from morning to night. Info and details on the programme of competitive and side events are available online.
