In fact, the races between Ziano di Fiemme and Alpe Cermis will assign the world titles and will also be valid as third and last stage of the 2024 World Cup season for the world's best roller-skier who will compete to the last metre in Trentino.
A distance race with Mass Start (Thursday 12th), a Sprint (Friday 13th), and a Team Sprint (Saturday 14th), all three in free technique, are expected to take place in the top international September event in Val di Fiemme. Classic technique, instead, Sunday 15th for the legendary “Uphill Mass Start Cermis Final Climb”, the iconic race that on the paved ramps of the Alpe Cermis represents the toughest and at the same time most coveted competitions of the entire international roller-skiing calendar.
The roller-skiing World Cup season began on Wednesday, July 17th, in the Latvian locality of Madona with the distance race in free technique, where Anna Maria Ghiddi, among the juniors, and Matteo Tanel, in the men's senior event, took the win and saw Italy on the podium also with the third place of Riccardo Lorenzo Masiero. Fifth place for Maria Eugenia Boccardi (senior), while among the juniors, the young Carlo Cantaloni achieved an excellent second place.
Head coach Emanuele Sbabo's national team also competed on Thursday 18th and there were six teams competing in the Team Sprint free technique. Among the juniors, Maria Invernizzi and Anna Maria Ghiddi reconfirmed their splendid form with victory ahead of the two Ukrainian national teams. Instead, the pair of Elisa Sordello and Maria Eugenia Boccardi finished in 8th place among the seniors, with the race dominated by Sweden's Ebba Stenman and Linn Sömskar. In the men's field, all the Italian teams finished in the top 10: in the Junior category, 5th place for Carlo Cantaloni and Stefano Epis and 7th place for Tommaso Tozzi and Francesco Chiaradia. Among the seniors, the Masiero-Tanel team had to settle for 8th place because, despite high expectations for the race, they had to reckon with a fall by Tanel 150 metres from the finish, which inevitably compromised Italy's podium hopes. 10th position for ‘Italy 2’, formed by Giovanni Lorenzetti and Michele Valerio.
