VAL DI FIEMME AND OLYMPICS 2026: FEDERAL CENTRE AND UPDATES
Val di Fiemme’s journey towards Milano Cortina 2026 continues

Val di Fiemme proposes to FISI to host a new federal centre Work on the Tesero Cross-Country Stadium and the Predazzo Ski Jumping one continues Province of Trento, local administrations and Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme in harmony

Val di Fiemme’s journey towards the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 continues steadily and in the past weeks, some important steps have been given new life to the Trentino Valley's adventure.

Going in order, on the occasion of the Rollerski World Championships, in addition to the great sporting show staged between Ziano di Fiemme and the Alpe Cermis from September 12th to 15th, a meeting was held between the local administrators (Mayor of Tesero Elena Ceschini, mayor of Predazzo Paolo Boninsegna and deputy mayor of Ville di Fiemme Mattia Zorzi), alongside the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme organising committee and the FISI president Flavio Roda, to present the proposal of Val di Fiemme to become a federal centre to the Italian Federation. This initiative will create the only federal Nordic ski centre in Italy between the three sport facilities of the Lago di Tesero Cross-Country Stadium, the Predazzo ski Jumping stadium and the Lavazè roller-skiing and cross-country skiing slopes, in the Trentino valley where top-level events have been organised and staged for decades in the white circus scene, and which have earned it the title of ‘cradle of Nordic skiing’. During the meeting with President Roda, Pietro De Godenz, president of the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme organising committee, emphasised some important aspects: “Our organising committee is the ‘armed branch of the FISI’. Our work is possible thanks to the Federation, which allows us to organise the world-class races that have made and will make the association’s history. Realising the decades-long work we carried out would undoubtedly be a great satisfaction and a further testimony of what this territory has given and received from the sport. My sincere thanks to President Roda for agreeing to the proposal of Val di Fiemme as a federal centre”. Roda himself added, “This meeting allows us to plan, not only the Olympic and Paralympic events of 2026 but also to think about the future. Here in Val di Fiemme, I found everything I was looking for and the federal centre that will be built here will be truly complete, not only for the great events that will obviously be the pride of the valley, but also for the great attention to the future that I have seen here first-hand, also thanks to the great work carried out by the local administrations and the Autonomous Province of Trento”. From the organising committee Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme, Bruno Felicetti also recalled that: “One of our strong points is the versatility and the multi-sportiness of the sporting facilities: versatility because the venues will host many different events and not only the strictly sporting ones, and multi-sportiness interpreted as the ability to give space to a multitude of sports, not only those concerning the Nordic skiing scene such as ski jumping, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and roller-skiing, but also other disciplines as, for example, already happens in Tesero with the Dance Centre”.

Now all that is missing is the definition of the final aspects to seal the agreement that will project Val di Fiemme and its municipalities and the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme organising committee, the Italian Winter Sport Federation and the Autonomous Province of Trento more and more towards the federal centre that the territory deserves.

Another important step in the approach of Val di Fiemme to Milano Cortina 2026 was the handover by the Autonomous Province of Trento of the works within the redevelopment of the Tesero Cross-Country Stadium, relating to the adaptation of the skiing slopes, the snowmaking and lighting system and the related water supply, with the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti recalling that “this investment will allow us to have a high-tech and excellent structure both for the 2026 Olympic Games, but also for the following phase. The conclusion of this facility, which we are approaching on schedule, will, in fact, allow Tesero, Val di Fiemme and the whole Trentino to always be at the top of international sports promotion for this discipline, also guaranteeing the future sustainability of these works”. Not missing at the handover were Marco Gelmini, head of the Province's civil works department, Elena Ceschini, mayor of Tesero, Pietro De Godenz, president of the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme committee, and representatives of the companies awarded the contract, including Giulio Misconel.

Finally, yet importantly, the meeting of the Provincial Council held last 20 September and hosted by the town hall of Predazzo was the opportunity to emphasise the great value of the Olympic and Paralympic appointment of 2026, with President Maurizio Fugatti recalling that: “We know that this is an important moment for the Municipality of Predazzo and the entire Val di Fiemme, which have crucial challenges ahead of them, starting with the 2026 Olympics: an event that we have been able to host all over Trentino also thanks to the work and investments put in place over the years by this territory in sports, in facilities, and the organisation of major sports events”. The mayor Paolo Boninsegna and his council, the President of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme Mauro Gilmozzi, the military and civil authorities, and the numerous representatives of the local association and volunteer world, welcomed the provincial executive.

There is still a long way to go towards Milano Cortina 2026, but the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme organising committee is in good company with solid partners, first and foremost the local administrations and the Autonomous Province of Trento.
