The FIS cross-country World Cup season has already begun
In Finland good results for Scardoni and Pellegrino, Bolshunov got the better of Klaebo

In Val di Fiemme temperatures and snow reports are positive, and the Fiemme Ski World Cup committee can focus on its January appointments. The Tour de Ski 2018/2019 will once again end in the "cradle of Nordic skiing" on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th January.
While waiting for the stage in Trentino, the FIS cross-country skiing World Cup season has already begun; there are many athletes ready to fight in a memorable season, which has never had so many surprises and protagonists. In the sports world, who never gives up is rewarded; in the opener of the sprint season in Ruka (FIN), Russia’s Alexander Bolshunov overtook the favourite Johannes Klaebo, who inexplicably slowed down few metres before the finish line; he was too certain of the victory. It was an attitude of 'superiority' that he paid dearly, but it is understandable, he is a 22-year-old athlete who has already won three Olympic gold medals. This opener has also seen Norway’s Therese Johaug come back on the top of the podium in the 10 km C.
The winners of the last Tour de Ski - Dario Cologna and Heidi Weng - are getting into shape for another great season, while the Italian men’s team, which is led by Federico Pellegrino, is getting good results. The ladies of the Italian team had a good start in the season thanks to the seventh place by Lucia Scardoni (Verona) in Finland.
The last stages of Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme are scheduled for Saturday 5th January with the usual Mass Start in classic technique (ladies 10 km and men 15 km) and for Sunday 6th January with the historical appointment with the “effort”: the Final Climb in free technique. The 9 km to heaven are for both women and men. An "equality" that leaves no escape to anyone: athletes who are mentally and physically in shape will arrive to the top, the others will struggle. A multitude of side events have been organised for that weekend, i.e. the "Rampa con i Campioni" for former champions and amateurs who want to boast that they too have managed to climb the slope OlImpia III (registration for 25 euros by January 4th), the challenges for very young athletes "Mini World Cup Coop" and "Junior Final Climb", the Après Ski-Race DJ set and Fiemme Rock & Roll party, and the Tour del Gusto to taste the typical local products during the World Cup race.
